Variant 1

Open the brackets, use the verbs in the Past Simple.

1. What your neighbours (to do) yesterday?

2. Mr Smith (to fix) his car yesterday morning.

3. His wife (to water) plants in the garden.

4. The bus (to arrive) at 9 o’clock.

5. They (to visit) their friend.

Change the tenses of the verbs into the Present Perfect. Translate the sentences into Russian.

1. She is taking the dirty plates from the table. 2. The children are putting on their coats. 3. Susan is making a new dress for their birthday party. 4. She is opening a box of chocolates. 5. The children are putting on their coats.

Open the brackets, use the verbs in the Present Perfect or in the Present Continuous.

1. What is she (to teach) them? 2. Who has (to teach) you to do it? 3. He has just (to do) something for us. 4. I have ( to read) this interesting book lots of time.

Use either the Present Perfect or The Past Simple in the following sentences.

1. Guillermo… (call) his employer yesterday. 2.We … ( begin, negative) to study for the test yet. 3. Mr Johnson … (work) in the same place for thirty-five years, and he is not planning to retire yet. 4. George ... (read) the newspaper already. 5. Joan … (travel) around the world.

Put the verbs in brackets into the correct tense.

1. If I (want) fog, he said, I (come) at quite the wrong time. 2. However, he (tell) me that I could buy tinned fog at a stop in Shaftesbury Avenue. 3. He (admit) that he never (buy) fog there himself but (assure) me that they (sell) good quality fog and that it (not be) expensive. I suppose he was joking. 4. When the old lady (return) to her flat she (see) at once that burglars (break) in during her absence, because the front door (be) open and everything in the flat (be) upside door.



Translate the words in brackets.

Read and translate the text. Put 5 different questions to the text.

My Foreign Language Teacher

When we first come to school, a teacher meets us and says: "I am going to teach you how to write, to read, and to count." No matter how many teachers we have after that, we remember our first teacher's name for the rest of our lives. Teachers are with us during all our life. We always remember what they say and how they act.

I'd like to say some words about my favourite school teacher. She teaches English. She was the first who introduced us to the wide world of the English language. And during all school years English was my favourite subject.

I think very much depends on the teacher of this or that subject. We are lucky to have such a nice teacher of English. First, she is a very good professional. She is competent in everything what she teaches us. She is very tactful. Learning languages and teaching-them requires infinite patience. And I must say that our teacher is very patient correcting our mistakes in reading, pronunciation, and spelling.

She always looks perfect, and we never see her face angry or unfriendly. She loves children, and it is very important in a teacher's work.

Teachers do not only teach their subjects. They develop their pupils' intellect, their attitudes to life and to other people.

Change the tenses of the verbs into the Present Perfect. Translate the sentences into Russian.

5. Put the verbs in brackets into the correct tense.

1. He (leave) it in his overcoat pocket. 2. Then he (remember) something else; his passport and tickets (be) in his overcoat pocket as well. 3. I (arrive) in England in the middle of July. I ( be told) that England (be) shrouded in fog all year round, so I (be) quite surprised to find that it was merely raining. 4. I (ask) another passenger, an Englishman, about the fog and he (say) that their (not be) any since the previous February.

I want to be a Programmer.

I want to become a computer programmer. I am interested in computers. It is a whole new world.

Many people continue careers of their parents or grandparents but it is not the case with me. My mother is a teacher and my father is a doctor. But I don't want to be neither a teacher nor a doctor.

My favourite subjects in school are mathematics, physics, and, of course, computer science. I am not interested in such subjects as geography, biology or chemistry. My hobby is computer games and computer programming.

I have a computer at home and can spend hours working at it. It is much easier to do things on computer, for example to write a composition. You can change the text as many times as you want and you don't need to rewrite everything if you changed something.

I think that the profession of programmer can give many opportunities. Computers are the most rapidly changing sphere of modern technology. We are living in the age of information. And I think that the future is just filled with computers.

Today, in England or in the US people can work, go shopping or even go on dates sitting at their computers. In our country, computers have been used just for a short time.

So after I finish school I want to enter the university and study computer science.
